It's really difficult to keep a large network up and running when you are a network administrator. That's because you need to check the status of each computer separately, view its hardware configuration, installed or pending updates and hotfixes and so on. But when installing Steel Network Inventory, things become much simpler.

That's because Steel Network Inventory allows you to check each network computer from your own machine remotely and view the hardware and software configuration for each of them, see running processes and available shared folders.

After installing the software, you will first need to select your network's homegroup, so that the program can automatically detect all the network computers and devices. Optionally, you can enter a range of IP addresses, so that Steel Network Inventory can scan each address between this range and find any potential network device.

After detecting each connected network computer, you can just click on the "Perform audit" button, located on the graphical toolbar. At this point, Steel Network Inventory will start gathering complete information about each network computer, like the hardware configuration, installed applications and updates, running processes and services and so on. After viewing the network information, you can easily export it to a HTML file, so that you can review the information later on. Optionally, you can configure Steel Network Inventory to automatically send an email with the network configuration to a specific address. Still, this feature requires entering the SMTP server address, port, username and password.

Pros

It can display complete hardware and software information about each network computer, using a single mouse click. Besides that, it can automatically detect network computers and it also allows you to enter the IP range manually. Furthermore, displayed information can be exported to a HTML file. Moreover, you can save the list of found network devices, so that you can re-use later on in the application.

Cons

Configuring the SMTP settings may pose problems to some users. With the help of Steel Network Inventory, you can easily view detailed hardware and software information about each network computer.
